Fine Tuned Presents and The Garage are bringing a four-band bill to Amy's Laundry in downtown Westminster on Friday, Aug. 14.
The venue is a working laundromat — promotional material for the show is blunt about it: "yes, a laundromat," and encourages attendees to "bring your dirty laundry."
Admission is on a sliding scale of $15 to $25, pay what you can. The show is open to all ages, though organizers advise discretion.
Why a Laundromat
Jake Fine, owner of Fine Tuned Presents, said the show landed at Amy's Laundry after a booking crisis elsewhere. A friend who ran a venue reached out because that venue was at risk of shutting down and needed to honor its booking of the four bands on the bill. Fine listened to the bands, liked their sound, and asked Amy Doody, owner of Amy's Laundry, if he could put on a concert at her laundromat.
Doody said she was glad to host the concert. "Jake Fine had a vision that was impossible to deny," she said. "His love for music and this community are really amazing, and we are grateful to be included."
Fine said the idea of staging concerts in unconventional spaces has been a running theme for Fine Tuned Presents. "I've always thought laundromats were aesthetically pleasing, and that they serve a really interesting role as community spaces," he said. He described spending time around Westminster asking himself "what kind of concert would happen here," thinking through where artists would set up, what genres would fit, and logistics such as electricity, neighbor impact and emergency exits.
Fine said Fine Tuned Presents has staged more than 30 original concerts at more than 25 Westminster-area venues, fewer than half of which had previously hosted live music. "The reception I've seen has been universally positive," he said. "People have expectations of traditional venues. But when they see a sound system and lights set up in the middle of a laundromat, and then the bands are actually good? It creates a feeling of endless possibility in Carroll County."
Fine said he sees the format as part of a broader expansion of Westminster's live music scene. "We've had special artists come out of Westminster for generations, but it's often felt like finding a needle in a haystack," he said. "Our music scene is expanding in both directions, with more opportunities for beginners, and with an incredible reception to regional and nationally touring artists." He pointed to open mics, jam sessions, weekly live music at bars and restaurants, and small festivals as signs of that growth.
The August 14 Lineup at Amy’s
Sam Elmore headlines the four-band bill slated to perform at Amy’s. Event materials describe Elmore's songwriting as blending folk storytelling traditions with pop hooks, with lyrics tuned to current social and political themes.
Soul Meets Body is a rock trio drawing members from the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area. Event materials describe the band's live shows as high-energy and its songwriting as politically charged.
Somebody's Daughter is a D.C.-based trio that plays synth-pop with what event materials describe as a "grungy, emotional edge." The band's promotional materials describe its music as an outlet for the experiences of trans womanhood.
Nimrod's Sun is an indie/alternative rock band formed in Virginia in 2025. According to the band's SoundCloud profile, it has built a following performing across Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland.
