Carroll County Recreation and Parks is hosting a Haunted History Hike at Hashawha Environmental Center, with two nights to choose from: Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, both from 7 to 9 p.m. The event begins at Bear Branch Nature Center, 300 John Owings Rd. in Westminster.
The roughly 2-mile after-dark trek features animatronics, costumed characters, spooky skits and historical stories along Hashawha's trails. Organizers recommend closed-toed hiking shoes and a flashlight, and note the uneven, dark terrain makes the hike unsuitable for anyone who has difficulty navigating trails at night. The event includes flashing lights and is recommended for ages 13 and up.
Hashawha staff will also be collecting cash donations at the event to support the park's Raptor Ambassadors program.
