Happy Wednesday, Westminster!

The six candidates for the Carroll County Board of Education met at last week's League of Women Voters forum, and two groups emerged. With early voting starting Thursday, Oct. 22, we break down where they agree and where they split. Carroll Community College also opens its new center for welding, automotive technology, electrical and plumbing training on Airport Drive on Monday.

There's plenty to do this weekend, too. CCPS kids are out of school Friday, Pleasant Valley's fire company holds its all-you-can-eat crab feed Saturday, and Food Truck Sunday Funday takes over the Farm Museum on Sunday.

Let's get into it.

Board of Education race takes shape as candidates debate Blueprint, laptops and how the board listens

Six candidates are running for three seats on the Carroll County Board of Education, and at the Oct. 7 League of Women Voters forum, two groups came into focus: former board president Marsha Herbert, who asked voters to also back Cleveland Friday and Shannon Hinkhaus, and Democrat Lisa Maisano and Republican Julie Walsh, who are running together. Sharon Wilhide is running with neither group. The candidates split on the state's Blueprint education law, whether younger students should keep school-issued laptops and how the board picks members of its advisory committees, but none of them defended the current board's decision to end Outdoor School overnights. Early voting starts Thursday, Oct. 22, and you can still register in person during early voting or on Election Day. The story has each candidate's background, where they stand and how to watch the full forum.

Carroll Community College to open Ratcliffe Applied Technology and Trades Center on Monday

Carroll Community College cuts the ribbon Monday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. on its new Ratcliffe Applied Technology and Trades Center, a 10,000-square-foot training space at 110 Airport Drive in Westminster with labs for welding, automotive technology, electrical work and plumbing. The college says the extra room should shorten its waitlists in automotive technology and welding. The center is a temporary "bridge facility" about 6 miles from the main campus, and it isn't where the college first said it would go. The story has how the center is being paid for, what students can get for free and who's speaking at Monday’s event.

Your K-Cup Has Been Sitting in a Warehouse for Months

That grocery store pod? It was roasted long before it hit the shelf. Coffee starts losing flavor within weeks of roasting — which is why your morning cup tastes flat, no matter how nice your machine is.

Angelino's does it differently. A third-generation roaster in Los Angeles, they roast, grind, and seal every pod in-house for peak freshness, then ship it to your door within days of roasting. The difference is the first thing you'll notice: real aroma, real flavor, no bitterness.

Mix and match from 50+ specialty coffees, teas, and flavored blends — all Keurig®-compatible — and save more with every box you add, up to 34% off at 12+. Order once whenever you're running low, or subscribe for an extra 5% if that's easier. Entirely up to you.

New customers get 15% off their first order — applied automatically, no code needed.
