Carroll County has a full slate of Independence Day celebrations this week, with events in Manchester, Mount Airy, Taneytown, Sykesville, and Westminster running through Saturday. Here's what's happening and where.
Monday–Saturday, June 29–July 4 — Manchester VFD Carnival
The Manchester Volunteer Fire Company Carnival is running all week at 3297 York St., Manchester, open nightly 6:00–11:00 PM (kitchen 5–8 PM, rides 6–10 PM). There's live music every night, a beer garden (must be 21 to enter), rides, games, and food, including pit beef, funnel cakes, Italian sausage, and more.
Two highlights worth circling on the calendar: the parade on Tuesday, June 30, steps off through Manchester; note there is no rain date, so it's canceled outright if the weather turns. Fireworks are on Thursday, July 2, with July 3 as the rain date. Thursday night's live music is Boot Leg.
Thursday, July 2 — Mount Airy American Spirit Parade
The Town of Mount Airy kicks off the holiday stretch with its American Spirit Parade on Thursday, July 2, beginning at 6:30 PM. The parade steps off from Mount Airy Elementary School (405 N. Main St.) and proceeds to the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company Carnival Grounds (1008 Twin Arch Rd.). This year's parade carries an America250 theme, marking the nation's semiquincentennial, and features a $500 prize for the best patriotic float.
Following the parade, a community dinner (available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the MAVFC), live music, and a patriotic flag-raising ceremony with the National Anthem take place at the festival grounds. Note that Main Street closures begin at 6:30 PM; plan alternate routes if you're driving through town.
Friday, July 3 — Mount Airy Fireworks
The following evening, Mount Airy's celebration continues at the MAVFC Carnival Grounds (1008 Twin Arch Rd.) with the annual Mount Airy Fireworks. Gates open at 4:00 PM, with the evening program beginning at 5:00 PM featuring live music from Southland Country, a special reading of the Declaration of Independence, and fireworks at approximately 9:30 PM. The town is marking the 250th anniversary of American independence as part of the national America250 commemoration. The program will also be livestreamed for those who can't attend in person. Admission is free; food vendors will be on site, and coolers with food and non-alcoholic drinks are welcome. No pets or grills permitted.
Friday, July 3 — Taneytown Independence Day Celebration
Also on Friday, the Taneytown Parks & Recreation Department hosts its annual Independence Day Celebration at Taneytown Memorial Park, starting at 6:00 PM. The evening includes a DJ, games, bounce houses, glitter tattoos, and food trucks, with fireworks at 9:30 PM. Admission is free.
Saturday, July 4 — Sykesville Let Freedom Ring Parade
The Downtown Sykesville Connection presents its eighth annual Let Freedom Ring Parade on Saturday, July 4, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM through Historic Downtown Sykesville. This year's theme is "Back to Our Roots," celebrating Carroll County's agricultural history; expect farm trucks, tractors, and kids' pedal cars (ages 3–5 can apply to participate). Floats will be judged with prizes awarded after the parade. The route begins at Sykesville Middle School and runs down Springfield Avenue through the full length of Historic Main Street. Free to attend. After the parade, downtown shops and restaurants will be open.
Saturday, July 4 — Carroll County Farm Museum
Carroll County's largest fireworks display closes out the week at the Carroll County Farm Museum (500 S. Center St.). Gates open at 4:00 PM with food vendors, live entertainment, and children's activities running through the evening. Fireworks begin at approximately 9:30 PM, with July 5 as the rain date for fireworks only. Admission is $10 per car, cash only — exact change preferred. No pets, outside alcohol, glass containers, grills, or pop-up tents/overhead shades permitted. Note that several roads around the Farm Museum close at 8:30 PM, so plan to be on the grounds before then.
