Hey…it’s time for the Weekend Wire.

We have some packed days ahead — and a few stories that have people talking.

First, City Park Gaming & Brew Room (CPGB) turns five this Saturday and is throwing a proper outdoor party to prove it — four breweries, a brass band that moves through the crowd, and Collision Course handling the food. How often do you get beer reps from Dogfish Head, Other Half, RAR, and Troegs all pouring drinks in Westminster?

Then there's the Route 140 crosswalk debate, which kicked off on Wednesday with a McDaniel student's petition and continued with the community's reaction, which turned out to be a lot more than just opinions on one crosswalk.

On top of all that, the Maryland Wine Festival, Art in the Park, a free Sports Card & Pokémon Show, and more all take place this weekend. There’s also something fun happening at the TownMall tonight (Friday), if you’re into virtual reality. Full rundown below.

Let’s get into it.

This Week's Stories

🍺 City Park Gaming & Brew Room turns five with a full outdoor blowout

City Park Gaming & Brew Room is celebrating its fifth anniversary this Saturday with a 1 p.m. outdoor party in the parking lot behind its Main Street building. RAR, Other Half, Troegs, and Dogfish Head will each have tents outside; all outdoor beers are $6 (buy tickets inside or out — they also double as raffle entries). Naptown Brass Band performs from 3 to 5 p.m., walking through the crowd with no stage or mics.

🚶 McDaniel student launches petition for a Route 140 crosswalk

McDaniel College student and Westminster resident Kendall Saffran launched a petition asking the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration to install a pedestrian crosswalk at Route 140 and Sullivan Road, near the Sheetz that opened in April. Saffran, who doesn't drive, says students routinely dart across the highway — often late at night — to reach the 24/7 store, creating hazards for pedestrians and drivers alike. Roy Rogers and the Westminster Community Pond, with trails that go northward, also sit on the Sheetz side of 140.

💬 Westminster reacts — the crosswalk debate opens to something bigger

When we published the crosswalk story, the comments came fast, and they went deep. A Carroll County, MD, Online Community Facebook post drew 100+ reactions and comments in 24 hours; hundreds more weighed in on Instagram and TikTok. The dominant theme: this isn't just about Sullivan Road. Residents named other dangerous intersections along 140 — Nursery Road, Gorsuch Road, Meadow Branch — and called for red light cameras, better enforcement, and long-overdue sidewalk infrastructure.
