Hello! Mother's Day weekend kicks off with a packed Saturday: the Flower & Jazz Festival downtown, the Free State Daylily Society plant sale at the Ag Center, the Westminster Aero Modelers' free open house out in New Windsor, and the comic and trading card show at TownMall. Plenty of options!
A quick heads-up on Saturday's weather with all these outdoor activities: Former WBAL reporter and meteorologist Lowell Melser gave us the latest forecast: possible AM showers, then cloudy 60s by noon, with sun warming things up to around 70. Afternoon thunderstorms could be on the way, so plan accordingly if you're headed out.

🌸 Flower & Jazz Festival Returns Downtown — Saturday, 10–4
The Westminster Flower & Jazz Festival takes over Main Street on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — three stages of live jazz and big band, 200+ artisan and craft vendors, local nurseries, and food vendors including Cousins Maine Lobster, Sherri's Crab Cakes, and Smokin' Roches BBQ. Stop by the City booth for a free Mother's Day flower, and head to the Gehr Lot for the Carroll County Health Department's Safe Kids Zone. Free admission and free parking at the City lots and garages.
🌼 Free State Daylily Society Annual Plant Sale — Saturday, 8–2
Also on Saturday, the Free State Daylily Society holds its annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carroll County Ag Center (700 Smith Ave.), running alongside the Mason-Dixon Rhododendron Society Show. More than 75 daylily varieties are on offer at $5 per double fan, plus member-donated companion plants — irises, coneflowers, hosta, and Japanese forest grass — also $5 each. Cash only, and some cultivars sell out quickly.
✈️ Aero Modelers' Free Spring Open House — Saturday, 10–2
Ever wanted to fly a remote-control plane? The Westminster Aero Modelers Club is handing over the controls for free at Baughers Field in New Windsor on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — instructor-led intro flights, club demos (jets and limbo demos at 11, 3D flying at 12, glider and helicopter at 1), and static airplane displays. If the weather doesn't cooperate, they'll have a flight simulator on hand. Free admission, family-friendly, all ages welcome.
🃏 Comic Book and Trading Card Game Show — Saturday, 10–4
The TCC Event Center at TownMall hosts its first comic book show on Saturday, sponsored by Cryogenic Comics and run by Collector's Clubhouse. Organizer Matt Schwartz says the show will feature 85 dealer tables — 15–20 dedicated to comics, with the rest covering Pokémon, One Piece, and other TCGs. One dealer is bringing relic cards (trading cards with pieces of actual comic books built in). Admission is free.
